AirAsia and MASkargo have defended their game titles as the Air travel of the entire year in the passenger and cargo categories, respectively, at the 2016 Kuala Lumpur International (KLIA) Awards tonight.
Both airlines were winners of the same categories this past year.
Emirates bagged the Foreign Flight of the Year honor for the passenger category while Cathay Pacific Airways emerged tops in the cargo category.
AirAsia once again was called as the success of the reduced Cost Airline of the entire year award.
The Promising New Foreign Air travel of the entire year award went to VietJet Air while the Best PROMPTLY Performance Airline of the Year award went to SilkAir.
Three new categories were also unveiled in this year’s prizes – Government Agency of the Year; Small Medium Organization of the entire year; and Foreign Airline of the Year by Sector (Passenger) Central Asia.
The winners were the KLIA Health Division for the Government Agency of the Year honor; Rasa Tidbits by Pandan Klasik Sdn Bhd (Small Medium Business of the entire year) and Uzbekistan Airways (Foreign Flight of the entire year by Sector-Passenger Central Asia).
The honours were presented by Move Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.
Since its inception in 2006, the KLIA Prizes is an twelve-monthly event that honours its associates for their excellent shows and services.
Liow, in his conversation earlier, said KLIA surpassed the 50 million passengers mark this past year and grew by 7.6 per cent to almost 53 million individuals.
Until August 2017, KLIA authorized a growth of 13.7 per cent set alongside the same period this past year.
With the opening of klia2, its second terminal portion low-cost companies, he said KLIA currently suits over 60 airlines offering more than 120 direct areas and is one of the very best 25 busiest airports in the world.
The success of KLIA, said Liow, would not have been permitted minus the the dedicated people – air-port operator, airlines, service providers, government agencies, merchants, contractors, floor handlers and many others.
As of yet, KLIA has received more than 80 honours and accolades locally and internationally.
Badlisham, on the other hand, said KLIA is currently the 14th busiest air port on earth for international traveler movements.
This past year, 70 per cent of the 53 million movements were international traffic, he said.
He added that KLIA had welcomed several new airlines this season including Himalaya Airlines, Thai Look Airways, US Bangla Airlines, JC Cambodia, Cathay Dragon and Batik Air Indonesia.
Philippines Airlines has also resumed their KLIA-Manila path after having a four-year hiatus.
Badlisham said several others experienced also used the opportunity to modernise their fleet such as Saudi Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways, which possessed presented the Dreamliner 787-9 and 787 airplane, respectively, to take a flight into KLIA.
